The Wailing willows

Call it a very accurate ventilation of emotions but I sketched this when I was on my third day of train-travelling back to Assam, I had precisely the same expression on my face!! Jokes apart, I have always been quite fascinated with the willow tree that pops up quite often in any nature poet's vocabulary. Wordsworth, Keats, Frost all pay homage to this legend that stoops at the sheer weight of its majestic branches. It also transpires to such a degree that poeple claim that the tree actually weeps!!! Whatever the case may be, it sure is an interesting tree.

Burberry Burlap

This was just an attempt to check out different filters available in photoshop. I wanted a rather flatish-rendering for the character with minimal colour clashes, so I chose the cut-out filter. The original is a simple outline drawing with a black glass marking pencil. The character here is Burberry Burlap and I drew her taking inspiration from the legendary Snow White (you can see the bow on her head), but with a little twist. I plan to do some more character sketches later on.

Some inspiration from my goofy canines

Another important project that I have been concentrating on, or rather trying to concentrate is on the analysis of two of my extremely pampered, overfed, drooling, wagging machines people call labrador retrievers'. The eloquent damsel Buttercup and the swashbuckling knight Bongo, have been a part of my life for the past two very magical years. They're quite goofy in their antics and I am planning to do small caricature studies on them. Hope I can get past all that licking and nudging!!

Coming soon....!!

I am in the process of illustrating a short limmerick that I wrote a some time back. The technique does pay some justice to my great obsession with detailing and fascination with monotones. I was greatly inspired by the illustration style by Tony DiTerlizzi for 'Spiderwick Chronicles', which is somewhat similar. Also, I illustrated keeping in mind the visual and literal details of my all time favourite author Lemony Snickett.

The Story of a.....what???

I'm posting my first comic book entitled the "Story of the Anglerfish", which I attempted in a workshop conducted last semester. This project is an important landmark for me for many reasons. It marks my first exploration with photo inks and also my first attempt with photoshop. This story is about a boy named Damien Rice who is declared an Aquaphobic (by accident!). As a result his upbringing is very uniquely moulded by his very talented and control-freak mother, Marge. Damien's sedentary lifestyle is suddenly shaken by the discovery of a new passion, one that becomes the greatest determinant of his fate.
